Welcome to Political Science Department

The idea of establishing an Islamic University in Nigeria was conceived immediately after the commissioning ceremony of Islamic University in Niger Republic established by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). The Niamey Islamic University commenced studies in 1987 and that gave the impetus to the Nigerian Muslims to crave for a similar University in Nigeria. Al-Qalam University Katsina (formally Katsina University Katsina) came into being in January 2005 consequent upon a license given by the National Universities Commission (NUC). A time-table drawn by the Academic Advisory Committee ensured the take-off of academic activities in October, 2005. The Political Science Department was established in 2013 and has full accreditation by the NUC

Vision

The vision of Political Science Programme is to expose students to understanding of political processes, intricacies of Government, Socio-political institutions and public affairs.

Mission

To adequately prepare students understand, conceptualize an inquire knowledge of elements of politics and political life. The Department is set to produce good graduates who can uplift the manpower of the State through working in various fields and professions such as politics, public affairs, diplomatic work, public administration, teaching and research. Our mission is also to adequately groom and prepare students for higher degrees and other postgraduate studies in international politics, political economy, comparative politics, public policy, development studies and also inculcate into the minds of the students sound moral principles, ethics, national unity, excellence and service.

Announcement

MSc, MPhil and PhD full time programmes have commenced in 2019/2020. Also BSc. Part-time programme commenced from 2019/2020.

News and Events

The Department excelled in academic competition and won the following awards:

  • Twice 1st Position certificate of excellence- Inter-state Debate competition organized by World Trade Organization Mock Summit Group held at Bayero University Kano (2016 and 2017).
  • The Department also took 1st Position in both Northwest Region Debate and Paper presentation, organized by the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS) at Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto (2019/2020 session).
