Welcome to Accounting Department

The Department of Accounting, founded in 2013, has four programmes. These are: B.Sc. in Accounting, Masters in Banking and Finance, M.Sc. in Accounting and Ph.D. in Accounting. The programmes’ study plan was developed by the Accounting Department’s academic staff who spent their formative years to make extraordinary contributions to Accounting and finance as researchers, teachers, and intellectual leaders taking into account the programmes’ mission and vision.

As a Department it has been recognized as an esteemed member for its major role in growth and development of the College of Social and Management Sciences. The Department continues to excel in teaching, learning, research and innovation. In addition to academic pursuits, the department organizes several extracurricular activities that make up a valuable part of the overall university experience. VISION

To serve as a world class center of accounting research and promotion of skills, knowledge and competency in accordance with the best practice of accounting as a discipline and profession.

MISSION

To inculcate and provide qualitative accounting education for  the students to be excellent and worthy in learning, through provision of scholarly teaching and research that will be acceptable within the accounting code of ethics and for pursuance of success and excellence.

PROGRAMMES AND THEIR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1B.Sc. AccountingEight (8) semestersFive (5) Credits in ‘0’ level Exams (WAEC, NECO & NABTEB) including Mathematics and English and any other three (3) commercial subjects.
2Masters in Banking and finance (MBF)Two (2) Semesters(1) Holders of first Degree from AlQalam University Katsina or any other recognized Institution with at least a Second Class Honours in Economics, Accounting, Business Administration and any combined honors in Economics.
(2) Holders of degree below second class lower or a good Higher National Diploma (HND) (at least Lower Credit) plus postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance (PGDBF), or its equivalent, with a minimum of
MERIT from either Al-Qalam University Katsina or any other recognized University; and
(3) In addition, candidates may be required to sit for an entry examination or attend an interview.
3M.Sc. AccountingFour (4) Semesters(1) Possess a first class or second class-upper degree in Accounting, obtained from a recognized university.
(2) Possess a good lower second class honours degree (CGPA: 2.75) in Accounting, obtained from a recognized university, with at least three (3) years post-graduation cognate experience.
(3) Possess a lower second class honours degree with (CGPA of 2.75) in Accounting, obtained from a recognized University PLUS a PGD in Accounting (at Upper Credit level), obtained from a recognized university or a professional accounting certificate obtained through qualifying examinations of ACCA, ICAEW, ANAN, ICAN, etc.
4PhD AccountingSix (6) Semesters(1)M.Sc. Accounting and Finance; or
(2)M.Sc. Accounting; and
(3)M.Sc. Finance; obtained from any recognized University.
In addition, to (1), (2) and (3) above, candidate must possess at least a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with second class lower Division, and must satisfy the university requirements for matriculation.
