WELCOME NOTE

Welcome to the College of Humanities. The College came into being with the beginning of the University in 2005. The College offers full time programmes in three Departments which are:

  1. African Languages Department which has two units, Arabic and Hausa
  2. English Department
  3. Islamic Studies Department

The College is running a semester system in which an academic year is split into two, first and second semesters. A student is expected to complete the programme within the duration of four years for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates, three years for Direct Entry (DE) candidates and two years for special admission candidates.

VISION OF THE COLLEGE

The main vision of the College is to impart meaningful and relevant knowledge with high moral standing and fear of Allah through provision of up to date teaching and research facilities in humanities, thereby serving as a model to similar institutions in Nigeria.

MISSION OF THE COLLEGE

The mission of the College is quest of academic excellence in Islamic, morally sound, efficient and conducive learning environment. The College offers quality education and encourages research and community services through high values in students’ skills of communication, moral and character.

PROGRAMMES AND THEIR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

AFRICAN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT (B.A. Arabic and Hausa Programmes)

The aims and objectives of the programmes are:

  1. To enable the students acquire spoken and written competence in Arabic and Hausa Languages.
  2. To acquaint the students with socio-cultural, commercial, political and diplomatic aspects of the life of the speakers of the languages with a view to promoting international understanding.
  3. To equip students with adequate training for jobs in the fields of teaching, translation and interpretation, administration, journalism and diplomatic service.

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT (B.A. English Programme)

The aims and objectives of the programme are:

  1. To give students a sound and solid background in effective mastery of the English language in its various applications in order to achieve adequate self-expression and self-actualization in the language.
  2. To adequately groom and prepare the students for higher degrees and other postgraduate studies in English literature and language.
  3. To enable students to overcome certain deficiencies in English without compromising standards.
  4. To produce good graduates who can uplift the manpower of States through working in various fields and professions such as journalism, translation, speech therapy, secretarial work, etc.
  5. To promote the quality of English teachers by providing effective and qualified graduates who will give instructional training in various educational institutions.

ISLAMIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT (B.A. Islamic Studies Programme)

The aims and objectives of the programme are:

  1. To develop and enhance students awareness of the values, contributions, and potentialities of their social, cultural and spiritual environments
  2. To equip students to contribute meaningfully towards attainment of national goals and satisfaction of national needs.
  3. To instill in students the spirit of self-reliance, self-pride and self-actualization

To take cognizance of socio-political development, the economy of the society, the fact of our pluralistic society, and need to forge a strong and united country
