The Vice-Chancellor Al-Qalam University Katsina, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri has said that he would soon make presentation before the University Council to institutionalise staff merit award.
The Vice-Chancellor who was speaking at the University’s first staff merit award ceremony, on Monday, 19th September 2022, stated that the merit award would take place annually to serve as motivation and inspiration to the university’s workforce.
Prof. Yauri said Council’s approval would also be sought for 40 per cent scholarship to be granted to the best student from each department of the university, to stimulate the spirit of competition and hard work among the students.
While commending the University’s Staff Merit Award Committee for excellent organisation of the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor enjoined staff to value their contribution to the development of the university, whether as drivers, technicians, messengers, cleaners, academic or administrative officers.
He congratulated the recipients of the awards and assured all staff that the Management would continue to improve their condition of service.
In his speech, the Special Guest of Honour and Chairman, Katsina Islamic Foundation, Alh. Bilya Sanda (Khadimul Islam), congratulated the Management of the University for initiating the staff merit award, adding that staff of the University should continue to be loyal and committed to the development and progress of the University.
In a goodwill message, the S.A. Higher Education, Dr. Usman Bashir Ruwangodiya, represented by Dr. Mannir Kabir Kankia congratulated the University, saying that staff would be highly motivated in driving the vision and mission of the University.
While welcoming the invited guests, the Chairman of the Staff Merit Award Committee, Dr. Abdu Abubakar Charanchi said, the award ceremony was the first in the history of the University and that 22 pioneer staff would be honoured for rendering their service to the development of the university since inception in 2005.
The recipients of the awards were Prof. Salisu Jafar Usman, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Sagir Adam, Engineer Musa Samaila, Dr. Armaya’u Umar Zango, Amina Usman Babba, Bashir Nasir, Lawan Ibrahim, Yusuf Abdu Randawa, Bello Ibrahim, Muhd. Abdullahi Kaita, Nasir Sa’ad, Tanimu Ammani Yari, Nafiu Salele, Umar Ubale, Sulaiman Mudi, Rabiu Ayuba, Shuaibu Usman, Nura Sani, Sanusi Muhammad , Lawan Musa Doro, Abubakar Hamisu and Hadiza Rabiu Kankia.
Each of the awardees received a refrigerator from the Management and N10,000 cash from the Chairman, Katsina Islamic Foundation, Alh. Bilya Sanda (Khadimul Islam).
Among the dignitaries who graced the ceremony were the Provost of the Federal College of Education Katsina, Dr. Aliyu Idris Funtua while the Vice-Chancellors of UMYU and FUDMA sent their representatives.
